Balloons at Car Lots?...Poor Market Research?

In recent years, I have noticed that car lots are relying a lot on balloons, inflatable Santas, monsters and apes to attract customers to their lot. Now, I am not a marketing person, but it seems to me that whom ever advised the owners to choose these options wasn't either.

If I was in the market for a car, driving down the road and saw a giant inflatable Godzilla in the parking lot of a car dealer, I am not going to slam on my breaks ("look kids, they have an inflatable Godzilla...they must have the best deals and service") and turn in...and I don't know anyone who would be attracted to a particular lot because of these "devices". Actually, it stirs up the opposite reaction. I would go to a lot that did not have any inflatable crap out front. Unfortunately, that is hard to do these days...at least where I live.

There is a street near where I live that has numerous car lots that all seem to subscribe to the same marketing advise...looks like a damn circus is playing all along the way.

This is just one man's opinion.
